Amerion College Resource Center

The College maintains a specialized resource center of business and general education texts for your use. Up-to-date business magazines and publications are provided, along with the latest in audiovisual aids for unique and practical classroom instruction. The resource center is under the supervision of a qualified multimedia specialist and is open during both day and evening hours.

Cabell County Public Library

Located directly across the street from the College is the Cabell County Public Library, holding more than 375,000 titles. The library staff will provide tours and reference assistance for our students. The Cabell County Public Library has entered into a contract designating the College as an “affiliate” of the county’s library system. All Amerion College students, regardless of their place of residence, are eligible for Cabell County Public Library cards, entitling them to full use of the library’s resources. 

Externships

Similar to internships, externships are practical and experiential learning opportunities provided by partnerships between educational institutions and employers in the student’s field of study. Each program requires an externship. Students will complete 60 hours for every program, with the exception of Medical Assisting (160 hours) and Dental Assisting (150 hours). 

Online Writing Lab (OWL)

The Online Writing Lab is a course available to students once enrolled. Ask your Success Coach about how to access the course.

Online Resources

Many resources are available to online students who can’t easily visit our campus or the library in person. Cabell County Public Library holds several e-books and e-audiobook titles, for example. In every program, our instructors work with online students to connect them with helpful resources that are accessible via the World Wide Web.

Most students need help paying for tuition. We’re here to help! Start by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Then explore scholarships, grants, and more!

Online Learning

Internet Access: You’ll need a reliable internet connection to take courses online.

Connecting at home? If you don’t already have access to the internet at home, contact a local Internet Service Provider (ISP) to set up your service before classes start.

• Recommended: LAN (local area network), cable, or DSL (digital subscriber line) connection. These hardwired connections are generally the most stable.
• NOT Recommended: Dial-up, satellite, or wireless internet connections. These are generally less stable than hardwired connections.

TIPS:

• Make sure you have the most recent version of your internet browser (Google Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, etc.)
• Disable pop-up blockers. Many of our online courses use pop-up content. Here are directions to manage pop-ups: Microsoft Edge • Firefox • Google Chrome

Connecting at work? Check with your IT department to ensure that you may access course materials from your company’s network.

Your Readiness: To be successful, you also need to be prepared to engage in online learning.

For example, do you:

• Use a computer every day?
• Have access to technical support?
• Use e-mail every day?
• Know how to download software?
• Know how to upload files to the internet?

Also consider your comfort level with the idea of working on your own, interacting with classmates only online, and other aspects unique to online learning.
